LOCAL MARRIOTT HOTELS GO GREEN

Rochester, NY-- The E.J. Del Monte Corporation, the company managing Rochester-area Marriott brand hotels, has implemented various environmentally-friendly initiatives that will help local hotels save energy and cut down cost.

Marriott franchises are not always required to follow Marriott International standards, but E.J. Del Monte has chosen to participate in the following programs:

• The “Re-Lamp” Campaign: Nearly 450,000 light bulbs with fluorescent lighting have been replaced throughout Marriott hotels worldwide. This resulted in 65 percent savings on overall lighting costs and energy usage in guest rooms.

• The Linen Reuse Program: This is a global effort to encourage guests to reuse linens and towels during their hotel stay of two or more nights.  An average of 11 to 17 percent was saved on hot water and sewer costs involved in laundering operations at each hotel.

• Marriott’s Smoke-free Policy: All hotels in the United States and Canada announced last year improvement in indoor air quality which will result in a 30 percent reduction in energy-use for air treatment systems.

• Marriott’s Ozone Activated Laundry and Formula One Systems saved up to 25 percent in energy used in laundry systems.

• Replacement of outdoor signs with LED and fiber optic technology, yielding a 40 percent reduction in outdoor advertising energy use in its first year.

• Installation of new shower heads which reduced hot water usage by 10 percent each year.

Founded in 1953, the E.J. Del Monte Corporation entered hotel construction and operation in 1974. Since that time, the E.J. Del Monte Corporation has added 17 Marriott hotels to its portfolio to include Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard by Marriott, Residence Inn by Marriott and Fairfield Inn by Marriott brands. Ernest J. Del Monte serves as Chairman of the Board and John Del Monte is president of the E.J.
