- More than $250,000 Being Spent to Renovate, Create Fitness Rooms in Area Hotels -

Rochester, NY - Away from home, it can be very hard to stay fit and healthy. Whether you are a business traveler who spends most of your time on the road, or a busy parent traveling out of town with kids for sports, getting in a short 30-minute work out can seem a chore. As the demand for living a fit and healthy continues to increase, the EJ Del Monte Corporation is launching initiatives to meet the demand.

"We are dedicated to providing our health-conscious travelers with options that meet their individual needs", says Laura Bennett, General Manager of the Rochester Airport Marriott Hotel. "Guest feedback has indicated an immediate need for hotels to provide appropriately sized fitness facilities as well as additional fitness options."

EJ Del Monte Corporation owns and operates nine Marriott hotels in the Rochester area, in addition to the Spa at the Del Monte in Pittsford. At The Del Monte Lodge and the Rochester Marriott Airport Hotel, the Fit for You program is in place. It features healthier options among breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, concierge-level selections, room service and catering menus. Healthier options are identified as either carb-conscious, low fat, or low cholesterol. This program is also present on the children’s menu at the respective hotels.

Improvements to Marriott fitness rooms around Rochester include:
  • Rochester Marriott Airport Hotel increase tripled their space for a fitness room. It is now 910 square feet and includes individual televisions at each treadmill. The new facility cost $50,000 to build.
  • The fitness room at The Del Monte Lodge is currently under renovation. The room will be extended by 120 square feet, and all equipment will be upgraded. The total budget for this project is approximately $75,000. In addition, The Del Monte Lodge offers its guests complimentary privileges to Mid-Town Athletic Club.
  • Three local Fairfield Inn by Marriott hotels recently added fitness facilities. Approximately $25,000 was spent on each hotel to mplete the renovations.
"Fitness center amenities and standards have been increased to reflect the growing need for maintaining health and fitness while traveling," says Jim Pestke, VP of Hotel Operations. "We have increased the availability of our fitness facilities by allowing guests 24/7 access."
